Hot Cross Buns 133: Platypus, Who's Catchphrase is it, Feudal.

Did you know that Feudal Japan was a period of history in Japanese? Many people think that "feudal" is the same thing as "futile"; it is, in fact, not even remotely close to the same. Feudal Japan refers to a period in Japanese history, roughly the 12th to 19th century. This is when the government was largely run by a system of military rule and land-based hierarchy similar to medieval Europe. There was an Emperor who really had no power and acted mainly as a figurehead, a Shogun, who had most of the military and political power, and the Daimyo, who were rich landlords, who were powerful enough to have their own armies. This was the time of Samurai, Shinobi(basically ninjas), and all the other crazy stereotypical Japanese things we see from movies and TV. This period lasted from around 1185 to 1868 and really only lasted because Japan was so closed off from the rest of the world. The end came about because the emperor regained power and then opened Japan up to the rest of the world. Also, crazy that around 60 years later, they wanted to kill everyone, or mostly everyone at least. HAHA!! Thank you for reading!! Oh, and listening, but that's secondary.

This week, the boys were tired bois, at least Jaymi and Carrington were. Regardlessly irregardless, we pressed on, because we could not let you, the wonderful, beautiful, hilarious listener, down. So we started with the hot topic of "1 Gorilla vs 100 Men", it was brain-deadening. After that, Clyde showed up, but with a twist! We played hypothetical trivia and then fell asleep smiling. This one got a little heavy on the inuendos, sorry? 

 

I'm done. No more descriptions. From now on, I'll just write about interesting facts in history. Did you know Nordic Runes have more meaning than just being a letter? Each individual "letter" also has profound spiritual, emotional, and social meaning. The rune making the "S" sound in Elder Futhark, for example, also means sun or victory. Over time, especially after the Viking age, the language used by Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians diverged from each other due to outside cultural and religious influences, with runes dying out almost entirely, except in Sweden, where they were used until the 1800s! I just like the idea of letters inside of names having more, and deeper meaning than just their phonetic sounds. The Vikings were sick. Thank you for listening!! I think the title speaks for itself, wouldn't even need a description, plus nobody reads these things. So let's do some odd facts sharing. Facts telling? I'm gonna learn you some facts. Did you know in the 14th century during the black plague, many parts of Europe killed off dang near all of their cat and dog population? The belief was that since these animals carried fleas they had to be the source of the plague, and black cats have always been surrounded by superstitious weirdness. Ironically, this made the spread of the disease much worse, since the humans took away the natural predator of rats, which were the actual carriers of the plague, LOL am I right? Hello, welcome to the land of fantastic wonders and made-up words!! This week, we talked to Cam about alllllll the countries he's been to, he is the most traveled of all of us after all, and hence the coolest. Honestly, we talked about that for most of the time, all the atrocities that happen in other countries, like TikTok being banned in some of them! How do people even live?!?! After that, we discuss Marvel movies, nerds one and all. Jaymi called Wonder Woman a Marvel character and surprisingly went un-flamed. This week on the #1 podcast, we return to our roots. What are those roots? Well, it's the place we grew from, the place we call home.
